From mural to identity

Developed alongside the restaurant refurbishment, the new visual identity drew directly from a series of commissioned murals combining traditional Japanese motifs with an contemporary aesthetic.

Their symbolism, distinctive forms and rich colour palette informed and shaped a brand that works in harmony with the atmosphere, materials and character of the renewed interior.

Wild river energy refined through symmetrical precision

The Arakawa symbol draws on Japanese culture while reflecting a contemporary, elevated dining experience. Its fluid, stacked forms evoke waves, water and the movement of tides, directly referencing Arakawa, meaning ‘Wild River’.

Within the precise angles and sharp curves of the symbol and wordmark are subtle references to fish, knives and traditional Japanese architecture.

The colour palette balances depth, warmth and freshness. Night and Gold establish a refined foundation, while Water and Salmon introduce references to the river, seafood and the energy of the dining experience. Softer tones of Ice, Cherry Blossom and Steel extend the system across quieter, more atmospheric applications.
